We will hold BBMP elections in December; Minister Ramalinga Reddy
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has said that the government is thinking of holding elections for the Greater Bangalore Municipal Corporation in December.
BBMP elections will be held before the Lok Sabha elections. He said that he will go to the Lok Sabha elections keeping Congress mayor in BBMP.
It is our party members who have made the case for early elections. BJP has done delimitation at will. We have fought a lot about this. We have left the issue of ward allocation to the decision of the officials. The minister made it clear that we will not do this.
We will hold elections and no one can escape from it. We will obey the court order. We will conduct elections by taking everyone into confidence.
The High Court had on June 19 given 12 weeks' time to review the ward allocation on the government's request. The government told the court that there are loopholes in the current redistribution.
After the High Court order, the government formed a commission headed by the BBMP Commissioner and issued an order. The members of the committee are BDA Commissioner, Bangalore Deputy Commissioner and BBMP Special Commissioner (Revenue). Commenting on the government's order, the transport minister said that the government is committed to conduct elections for BBMP.
